ByCity Living Limited
T/A Urbancode is full of passionate people who want to make a difference.
At the heart of
everything we do at Urbancode is our belief that business should be conducted honestly,
fairly and with respect for people, their rights and the natural environment. These
values are reflected in our Group Business Standards Policies (see Policies) and
our Corporate Responsibility Program.
We are responsible
for the impacts that we have on the world around us, so we endeavour to make a difference
in three key areas:
Policies
Our values on human
rights and the environment are reflected in our Group Business Standards Policies,
and shared by all of our brand/s.
We believe that
business organisations have an obligation to be good corporate citizens, so our
Policies are integral to the way we do business.
Our Policies set
the standards of behaviour by which we manage the organisations, with consideration
for all of Urbancode’s employees, partners, suppliers, customers, the wider community
and the environment.
Ethical Sourcing
Improving the lives
of the people who make our products is one of our top priorities.
Many of our products
are sourced from supplier factories in different countries around the world. So
we need to know about working conditions in these countries and take responsibility
for the people who make our products, even when they do not work for us directly.
Our policy is to
only do business with suppliers that adopt and implement our standards or have their
own policies that reflect the same values. Local legal compliance is always part
of our trading contract with suppliers and our Code of Employment Standards for
Suppliers is based on the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code.
Ethical Sourcing “Urbancode’s
Way”
Our approach to
monitoring supplier factories is based on building good relationships that encourage
cooperation in an open and constructive way.
We help our suppliers
implement the Code which includes provisions to give workers fair Salaries’ and
working hours, safe and hygienic working conditions, regular employment, and no
discrimination, harsh or inhumane treatment. Our Code also specifies that no child
labour is used, employment is freely chosen, and workers have the right to freedom
of association and collective bargaining.
We review factories
with factory management to identify risks and make recommendations for improvements.
We then help and encourage our suppliers by sharing best practice, providing resources,
training, regular follow up and linking them with appropriate local organisations
where possible.
Long term strategy
Many of the issues
we face in our supply chain are complex and require a long term strategic approach,
sometimes over many years. We recognise that true progress takes time, commitment,
resources, patience and cooperation.
